Not since 1983 have the Seagulls played top flight football, and to kick off their campaign they face the toughest of tests against the team widely expected to finish top of the table next May.

The home side have been boosted by Anthony Knockaert, who was directly involved in more league goals than any other Championship midfielder last season, recovering from injury to start on the bench.

City, meanwhile, have started three of their summer signings, with Ederson, Kyle Walker and Danilo making their Premier League debut under Pep Guardiola.

The Sky Blues should seal a straightforward victory at the Amex, but shock results in the league earlier today, including Burnley’s win over reigning champions Chelsea and Huddersfield Town’s victory over Crystal Palace, prove no side should be underestimated.

Take a look at the confirmed starting line-ups below:

Brighton XI: Ryan, Bruno, Dunk, Duffy, Suttner, Brown, Propper, Stephens, March; Gross, Hemed

Subs: Maenpaa, Huenemeier, Rosenior, Sidwell, Murphy, Knockaert, Murray

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Walker, Kompany, Otamendi, Stones, Danilo, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, D Silva, G Jesus, Aguero

Subs: Bravo, Bernardo, Sterling, Sane, Mangala, Foden, Yaya Toure
