Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp managed to laugh off Brighton’s penalty as they beat their rivals 5-1 in the Premier League.
With the Reds already winning 3-0 a light push from Jordan Henderson on Shane Duffy saw referee Graham Scott award a dubious penalty, which Glenn Murray slotted away.
But having seen Simon Mignolet somehow avoid a red card in midweek, which helped them claim a victory against Stoke, the German boss conceded karma had been in effect at the Amex Stadium.
Klopp said: “If you win 5-1 it’s maybe the best day to get a penalty that is not a penalty. It’s not a penalty.
“Last week we were lucky with the situation around Simon Mignolet and we have been paid back immediately, so we are now equal again.
“It was unbelievable. I saw it and thought, ‘heh?’ Obviously he gave it and it made the game a little bit more exciting.”
And asked if he was satisfied with the win, Klopp: “Yeah, very.
“It was very difficult today. Since yesterday we knew we didn’t have enough proper centre-halves – they were ill and injured – and we had to be creative. I’m happy about how the boys adapted to it because it’s easy for a team to say ‘we’re not used to it’.
“It was difficult today because, I think, Brighton were quite surprised about our line up, and that’s normal, and they couldn’t quite cope with it.”
