Paris Saint-Germain contact Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho’s representatives about becoming manager

Paris Saint-Germain have made contact with the representatives of Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho over the possibility of him becoming their manager, according to the Sun.

The news comes a day after United fell to a 1-0 defeat at Chelsea – Mourinho’s previous employers.

Earlier in October the Red Devils manager had to respond to reports linking him with the Ligue 1 club after he had praised the ambition of the Parisian side.

He attempted to pour cold water on the rumours but the links have continued to persist.

PSG have been making waves in recent years since their Qatari takeover and have since dominated in France – with last year proving to be the exception.

With Unai Emery currently in charge at the Parc des Princes, the Ligue 1 giants made massive waves in the summer transfer window when they signed Neymar, for a world-record fee, and Kylian Mbappe for another huge sum to be paid next year.

The ambition of the PSG owners is clear as they target victory in the Champions League.

As it turns out there are severe doubts about the ability of current boss Emery – who was hired thanks to his excellent Europen record with Sevilla – and the hierarchy at PSG see Mourinho as the man to guide them to Champions League glory.

The 54-year-old Manchester United boss has won Europe’s premier club competition twice in his career – with Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010.

He also guided the Old Trafford club to Europa League glory last year.

Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Antonio Conte’s Chelsea has left United second and eight points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

With Pep Guardiola’s side in scintilating form many predict they are simply too good to catch and Mourinho admitted, after the loss at Stamford Bridge, that he was worried by the size of the gap between his team and their local rivals.

Rumours have also circulated that Mourinho wants more from the United board regarding investment in playing staff.

While the Red Devils added the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof in the summer it was well documented Mourinho wanted a fourth arrival in the shape of Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic.

However, a deal couldn’t be concluded and the Croatian winger stayed put in Italy.
