Raheem Sterling has put Manchester City contract talks on ice until after next summer’s World Cup.
Real Madrid could rekindle their interest in a player they were heavily-linked with two years ago, according to The Mirror.
Sterling wants to focus on landing Premier League and Champions League honours this season before sitting down to discuss a new deal.
But that delay could be enough to convince Real Madrid chiefs to sound out Sterling over moving to the Bernabeu.
Sterling has two years left on his current deal, which is worth £180,000-a-week.
And boss Pep Guardiola made clear he wants Sterling to stay following his recent 96th-minute winner for City against Southampton.
“We were clear when Arsenal wanted him we said, ‘No, that’s not going to happen’,” Pep revealed.
“He’s still young and we hope to make him happy so that he can stay for longer.”
