Southampton’s start to their campaign was stunted after a summer tug of war with Liverpool over defender Virgil Van Dijk.
However, they have managed to keep their man for the time being and have been steady under new manager Mauricio Pellegrino.
League position: 13th (13 points)
Best game: Southampton 1-0 West Brom
Worst game: Southampton 0-2 Watford
Best player: Steven Davis
Very few have set the season alight at St Mary’s but midfielder Steven Davis has produced some solid displays this term.
The club captain most notably bagged the winning goal in a crucial 1-0 win at Crystal Palace in September.
It was felt amongst many Saints supporters that former manager Puel did not play exciting football but it’s hard to see if Pellegrino has fully addressed this grievance yet.
However, they have talent in the team and Sofiane Boufal’s magnificent solo goal against West Brom suggests there could be more excitement on the south coast later in the season.
